Artist donates two paintings to the HSLC

There’s a very talented artist in Lincoln, and many people (especially dog lovers) are well aware of his work. The artist is E.J. Miley, Jr., a faculty member at Lincoln College, and a devoted advocate for canines.

Mr. Miley’s recent exhibition “Woof! Woof! Woof!” knocked the sox off those who were lucky enough to view it. This was Miley’s second annual exhibit of paintings of dogs at the Layman Art Gallery (McKinstry Library) at Lincoln College, and will be followed by a third and final exhibition of the series in 2008. In addition to teaching art, creating, exhibiting and selling his paintings of canines, he does commissioned portraits of pets.

As part of Mr. Miley’s efforts to promote dogs and their welfare, he generously donated two of his paintings from the Fall 2007 exhibit to the Humane Society of Logan County. One of the paintings, entitled “Come on Baby, you know what I want” shows a dog, leash in mouth, with pleading eyes, begging to go for a walk. This painting will hang in the reception area of the new HSLC animal shelter, when it is constructed in 2008.

“Where have all the flowers gone?” features a down and out hound in a wintry surrounding, missing the dog days of summer, no doubt. This piece of art will be made available for purchase to the highest bidder in a public silent auction to be held this winter. Watch the HSLC website: www.HSLCLincoln.org for details. Proceeds of the sale will be used to further the mission of the HSLC in providing for the humane treatment of animals.
